RioConnect: Bringing Real-Time Connectivity to Sewer Cleaning Fleets

As the sewer cleaning industry evolves, increasing operational pressures, rising fuel and water costs, and the need for greater transparency are driving demand for smarter, more connected solutions. In response, Rioned has introduced RioConnect, a new connectivity platform designed to give operators and fleet managers greater visibility and control over their machines in the field.

RioConnect is a secure, cloud-based system that enables real-time monitoring of sewer cleaning equipment. By connecting machines via an on-board gateway, the platform delivers live and historical data on performance, usage, and location, accessible from anywhere.

For contractors, the benefits are immediate and practical. Operators can monitor key parameters, including pressure, flow, fuel levels, and engine performance. At the same time, fleet managers gain a clear overview of how machines are being used across multiple jobs and locations. This collation of live and historic data supports faster decision-making, improved efficiency, and more proactive maintenance planning.

“RioConnect is about giving our customers the information they need, when they need it,” explains Koen Scheepens, RioConnect Project Lead at Rioned. “By making machine data accessible, we’re helping users take greater control of their operations.”

A key feature of the platform is its alert and notification system, which flags potential issues or maintenance requirements early. This allows teams to diagnose problems faster and avoid costly breakdowns. In addition, remote access to machine data enables Rioned service teams to provide support without always needing to be on site.

Beyond operational efficiency, RioConnect also addresses the growing demand for transparency. Contractors can use the platform to provide clear proof of work, respond to customer queries, and demonstrate how equipment is being used in the field.

“Customers are increasingly looking for accountability and insight,” adds Scheepens. “RioConnect not only supports internal decision-making, but also helps our customers build trust with their own clients through better visibility and reporting.”

RioConnect is currently available with new Rioned CityJet machines, with the first year offered free of charge. The platform is expected to expand across additional machine types, such as the MultiJet, eFlow One and ProfiJet in the future, reflecting a broader shift towards digitalisation in the sector.
