Rioned CityCom: Meeting the Challenges of Urban Drainage Cleaning

CityCom-Blog-Header

Drainage operators working in urban centres face a demanding mix of logistical, environmental, and technical challenges. Narrow streets, limited access routes, height-restricted areas, and pedestrian-heavy zones all conspire to make standard sewer cleaning operations far from straightforward. In many cases, full-sized combi units are simply too large to reach the affected site, and deploying multiple vehicles increases both cost and disruption.

Multi-level car parks, underground service roads, and courtyards tucked behind buildings can be near-impossible to access without compact, agile equipment. Add to this the growing number of Low Emission Zones (LEZs), which restrict or penalise the use of high-polluting diesel engines, and the need for a purpose-built solution becomes clear.

Built for Power, Precision and Productivity

The Rioned CityCom is designed from the ground up to meet these challenges head-on. Its compact chassis and low profile can navigate inner-city streets and restricted access areas with ease. For areas with stricter height restrictions, such as underground parking facilities, an optional cabin roof modification reduces the height from 2.15 metres to about 1.98 metres, allowing it to enter spaces that taller units simply cannot. Crucially, the CityCom meets Euro 6 emissions standards, meaning it operates cleanly and efficiently in the most environmentally sensitive areas.

The CityCom is not just compact, it’s built to perform. Despite its small footprint, this unit delivers industrial-grade jetting power with pressures up to 320 bar and flow rates up to 85 litres per minute, depending on the configuration. This makes it more than capable of clearing tough blockages and maintaining pipes with speed and reliability. The vacuum pump offers a capacity of 7,200 litres per minute (432 m³/h), ensuring efficient waste extraction.

What sets the CityCom apart is its integration of high-pressure jetting and powerful vacuum suction in a single, self-contained unit. Built on the reliable MB Fuso Canter 6S15 chassis, it boasts a 150 HP engine with a Power Take-Off (PTO) drive system powering both the vehicle and the jetting and vacuum pumps. The unit also houses a 1,700-litre wastewater tank and a 600-litre clean water tank, enabling extended operations without frequent refills.

By eliminating the need for separate vehicles, this economical and environmentally-friendly solution means contractors can reduce operational costs, improve response times, and take on a wider range of jobs without upsizing their fleet.

Smart Solutions for Tight Spaces

When space is at a premium and time is critical, the all-in-one jetting and vacuum capabilities of the Rioned CityCom eliminate the need for multiple pieces of equipment. Operators can quickly clear blockages, extract debris, and restore flow, all from a single, easy-to-manoeuvre vehicle.

Ease of use and safety are engineered into every detail. The intuitive eControl+ system gives operators precise control over all functions, while the RioMote remote control enables a single operator to manage the entire process from a safe distance, making it ideal for complex environments such as high-traffic or confined spaces. This not only boosts productivity but also minimises labour requirements. The vehicle’s ergonomic layout reduces operator fatigue, and essential safety features like the emergency stop function and urban noise-dampening technology ensure compliance with modern site standards.

The CityCom doesn’t just fit into the urban environment, it thrives in it. It allows contractors to say yes to jobs that would otherwise be off-limits, opening new revenue opportunities while maintaining the high standards of service and compliance that modern cities demand.
